What's the TOKKOU?
What the TOKKOU?
In Japan, there is a subculture of youth motorcycle "crews" known as Bousouzoku, primarily composed of young men and women aged 16 to 18.
These crews wear distinctive attire known as Tokkou-fuku ("Special Attire"), which are often emblazoned with their team’s name. However, these are far from simple uniforms. Starting with a plain garment, each Tokkou-fuku is customized to express the member's individual spirit, beliefs, and aspirations through intricate text and designs. Every single character and pattern is meticulously rendered in embroidery, making each piece entirely unique.
(This tradition of embroidered uniforms is also seen in Sotsu-ran, customized school uniforms worn by students to celebrate their middle school graduation.)
When rivalries arose between crews, a representative would be chosen for a Taiman—a one-on-one showdown. This was never just a simple fight. It was a battle of honor, fought with the collective spirit of their crew on their back, a fierce pride, and an unbreakable resolve to never be defeated.
This philosophy—to uphold your principles, to cherish your comrades, and to never back down from a challenge—is the spirit we sublimate into our designs. We share this history and passion with the world as "TOKKOU."
For the battles you cannot afford to lose, for the moments you take a bold new step, we hope TOKKOU will be there to support your spirit.
